What is the Forum?
- The Forum is a place where you can meet other disabled people and share your experiences.
- You can say what you think and ask the Council what they are doing for you.
- You can ask questions about the services Bristol City Council provides for you and make sure it provides them properly.
- Forum members can become involved in a variety of Council initiatives. The Forum elects 22 advisors who carry your views to the Council on such matters as services in the home, transport, physical access, parks department, swimming pools, youth services.
How to join
You can join free of charge at any meeting if you live or work within the boundaries of Bristol and are a disabled person, ie, a person:
- with physical or sensory impairment
- with learning difficulties
- who experiences or has experienced mental/emotional distress
How often does the Forum meet and will I be able to take part?
- The Forum meets four times a year in a wheelchair accessible venue. BSL and SSE interpreters and personal assistants are provided at every meeting.
- Travel costs, including taxi, car, bus or train, are reimbursed at the Forum meeting. Please bring receipts to the meeting. Any support costs are also paid on the evening, eg, costs of childcare or for an adult family member.
- You can join at any meeting and be paid for your travel costs.
