Bristol Race Forum exists to raise the voices of Bristol’s Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities within the City Council to ensure that community concerns are heard and acted upon and to promote race equality in everything the Council does.
The Forum is made up of volunteers and works independently of the Council but has direct access to the Council’s decision-making processes. For example the Council will consult with the Forum on policies, proposed changes to services and planned projects, and elected Forum members (called “Advisors”) feed back on the thoughts and feelings of, and possible implications for, the BME communities they represent. In addition to this, the Forum may also initiate campaigns or projects on certain issues such as the Broadmead name change back in 2003 or Abolition 200 in 2007.
