The aim of the Bristol Women's Forum is to promote womens' equality. The independent Forum is run by volunteers. It lobbies Bristol City Council departments and councillors on women's issues, runs campaigns and consultations and puts on events. It provides channels for women in Bristol to raise issues, to become involved in Council decision making and in running campaigns.
Women who live or work within the boundaries of Bristol can join the Women's Forum.
Forum members are welcome to meet at one of the four 'Open Forums' to raise and discuss issues and are kept up to date on Council developments. The Forum also runs some consultation events with women.
Advisors are elected each year by members of the Forum. They meet about once a month to discuss issues of concern to women which are then raised with councillors and officers. Advisers may also become involved with particular campaigns as agreed by the forum.
Advisors elect 'Co-optees' who have a formal place on the Council's Scrutiny Commissions.
Training and support is offered to new Advisers.
Come to one of our open forum meetings - these provide a safe space for women to find out what has been happening in the council and to raise issues of concern to women living and working in Bristol. Please get in contact if you would like to come. See out calender for dates.
If you would like to get more involved once you are a member, become a women's Adviser. This will give you the opportunity to:
