About International Women's day

Welcome to Bristol's International Woman's Day, an event to celebrate the achievements of women in Bristol and all over the world.

Bristol has a proud history of women's activism, and the City Council have created a day of events that will bring women together to discuss the issues that matter to them, to highlight the wonderful activism that is alive and well in our city, and to create a space where women can discuss and share their experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Women from all over Bristol and the world will be celebrating on International Woman's Day, acting in workshops, giving talks, sharing schemes and sharing inspiration. We have inspirational women from all over Bristol and beyond discussing and focussing on the issues that matter to women.

So come along to the Council House, College Green at 10am, Saturday 6th March and be part of it. Check out your local libraries to see how the celebration of International Woman's Day is happening all across the city.

All About International Woman's Day

International Woman's Day has always been a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements and activism of women all over the world. It is a day when women all over can stand hand in hand and ask the world to take of the bravery and courage of women all around the world.

To celebrate the activists marching on Reclaim the Nights to stand in solidarity with the women journalists in Iran, to forge links with our sisters in Afghanistan, America, Russia, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, India, Australia, Burma, Nicaragua, Haiti, Guatamala, the Congo...

All over the world women face terrible injustice; the horrific rate of violence against women, poverty and the repression of reproductive rights.

International Woman's Day is about raising awareness of the problems women face, but it is also a day to recognise women's fight and to educate about the battles women are winning. And primarily it is a day to celebrate what women are achieving in Bristol and all over the world.

Bristol will be celebrating International Woman's Day with workshops, performances, discussions and by starting conversations. We will also be awarding those women in Bristol who are endlessly working to make the city a better place for gender equality.
